Sally's case details in the view render -- option one:

Carla

Female, 30 years

Single mum with recent BTEC National Award in Early Years wants to start work, but unsure how to find something that would fit in with her caring responsibilities and give her enough money to live.

Customer Current Situation

Customer has recently achieved a BTEC National Award in Early Years. She is a single mum with a child who is nearly 5 years old and is very dependent on benefits. She has been doing voluntary work in her child's primary school as a parent helper.

She is keen to work as a classroom assistant and has been doing a couple of hours of work in this role. She has been considering getting several part-time jobs to make up her income, but realises there may be problems getting cover if her child is sick. She would prefer one full-time position within a school.

Customer Problem

She wants to start work, but unsure how to find something that would fit in with her caring responsibilities and give her enough money to live.

Explored her options of working as a classroom assistant and then making up her hours with another part-time job. Discussed working in a nursery and other childcare environments.

Talked about maybe taking further training courses (such as sign language and the health and safety at work) and continuing her studies.

Issues and Solutions

Not sure whether she is ready to return to work. Although she is very keen, seems to lack confidence in her abilities.

Lack of money is a barrier and funding further study could be a big issue - need to source out possible funding opportunities.

Child care responsibilities her priority at the moment

Recommended Information for Customer

Foundation Degree in Early Years

Short skills development and confidence building courses - must be local
