London (26%), the South East (22%) and the East Midlands (22%) have the highest percentage of women employed in the sector, which is due to the high numbers employed in the aviation industry.
Within the industries women represent:
- majority of the community transport industry
- 37% of the aviation workforce, but are concentrated in roles such as air cabin crew
- 27% of the coach industry
- 22% in driver training
- 18% of transport planning
- 17% in bus and coach industry
- 13% of the rail industry
- 12% of the taxi and private hire industry
