Sector specific vocational qualifications

Skills for Logistics Scottish/National Vocational Qualifications (2006) Include:

  • at Level 1 – Distributive  operations
  • at Level 2 – Carry and deliver goods; Driving goods vehicles; Distribution, warehousing and storage operations; Storage and warehousing; Traffic Office; Mail Services; BTEC First Diploma in Logistics
  • at Level 3 - Driving goods vehicles, Distribution, warehousing and storage operations; Storage and warehousing; Traffic office; Certificate in Theoretical background to DGV*; BTEC National Award in Logistics; BTEC National Certificate in Logistics; BTEC Certificate in Road Freight Logistics*; Certificate of Professional Competence in National Road Haulage Operations**; Certificate of Professional Competence in International Road Haulage Operations

* These qualifications have been approved as a tech. cert. for the DGV advanced apprenticeship.
** A certificate of professional competence in national/international road haulage operations will be appropriate for those who need or wish to hold the prerequisite qualification of professional competence for operating licensing in the UK, as required by the Department for Transport (DFT).  The qualifications assess the areas specified in EU directive 98/76/ec.  Alternatively, individuals may possess a comparable diploma or qualification awarded by a professional institute which is also recognised by the DFT.

Other Qualifications include the ADR (Accord Européen Relatif au Transport International des Marchandises Dangereuses par Route) Certificate is required for all drivers who transport dangerous goods.  An approved training course is required for all personnel involved in the transport of dangerous goods, but only drivers must pass an exam (set by City and Guilds)
