Graduate entrants and schemes

Many of the larger Logistics companies offer their own in-house training courses aimed at graduate entry candidates. Continuous professional development (CPD) is very important within Logistics and entrants can expect to take further qualifications.
These may include:

  • the Certificate of Professional Competence (also available as the International CPC)
  • the National Examining Board for Supervisory Management (NEBSM) exams
  • the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT UK) Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma

These courses cover legal requirements for transport, managerial skills and other aspects of supply-chain management.

For graduates wishing to progress further in their careers, qualifications such as the Certificate or Diploma in Management Studies (CMS/DMS), and/or a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or Logistics are considered useful, or in some cases essential

The pay for graduate entrants is considered uncompetitive. Young managers and people with potential in the industry seem to be undervalued as professionals.
