The IT workforce in London is 217,202, including:

  • 116,190 employees in the IT industry
  • 101,012 IT professionals working in other sectors

Employment in IT is expected to grow over the next ten years.  The most common IT job role in London, as in the UK, is ‘software professional’.  A high proportion of the region’s IT professionals work in the private sector.

Only 7% of companies in London reported that their IT professionals are less than 100% proficient. 7% of IT companies also reported that the IT workforce has skills gaps.  The most significant skills gaps in London are in the development and implementation of IT systems and services.

There are 17 Higher Education Institutions offering QAA (Quality Assurance Agency) accredited courses in Computing or Computer Science.  London is the second most popular destination for graduates, attracting 13.8% of graduates who entered the UK IT workforce within six months of graduation.
