National Health Service Careers
This website was commissioned by the Department of Health and launched in 1999. It provides information about nursing and midwifery, doctors, allied health professionals, health care science, managers, health informatics and others. It covers general information about the work itself, case studies, entry requirements, skills requirements, pay and printed career leaflets on request. The website also contains a job portal with job search criteria covering occupation, location and salary, and has a link to NHS employers .
Prospects – the UK graduate careers website
The website, run by Graduate Prospects Ltd, provides information about graduate careers in a range of industry sectors, including health. In addition, information about postgraduate courses and contact details of careers services are offered.
This is the website for the Sector Skills Council for Health. The organisation aims to develop the skills of the UK workforce and to link with major workforce development initiatives. The website has information on S/NVQs, apprenticeships together with a list of the projects Skills for Health are involved with. It also contains an overview on the new career framework for the health sector.
NHS – bring leadership to life
The wesbite details the NHS graduate schemes in England and Wales. These schemes are designed to train very senior NHS managers. Around 180 places for general management, financial management and HR trainees are expected to be filled in 2006.
There is also a section for careers advisors with infofmation on how to prepare applicants for the selection process and detailing what a career in NHS management can offer.
NHS Modernisation Agency: New Role Library
Provides insight into new roles and job specifications at Trust level, including new roles in the following areas: neontal, mental health, cardiac, gynacology, emergency and trauma, surgery, pharmacy and theatre. An overview on the national practitioner programme is also available.

The NHS Institute was established in 2005, replacing the NHS Univserity.
