West Midlands

The West Midlands accounts for 13% of the sector’s workforce in England and 11% in the UK.  The West Midlands has 10% of the food and drink manufacturing enterprises in England and 7% in the UK.

The workforce in the West Midlands shows a similar qualification pattern as the rest of England or the UK.  64% of the sector‘s workforce have a qualification equals or lower than Level 2.  This compares to 66% in England and 65% in the UK.  17% of the workforce in the West Midlands is qualified at Level 4 or higher.  This compares with 17% in England and in the UK.

33% of employers in the West Midlands report vacancies compared to 35% of employers in England.  5% of the employers report hard-to-fill vacancies, compared with 8% of employers in England.  7% of employers report skill shortage vacancies, compared with 9% in England.
