The North East accounts for 4% of the sector’s workforce in England and 3% of the in the UK. The region has 4% of the food and drink manufacturing enterprises in England and 3% in the UK.
The workforce in the North East is less well qualified compared to the rest of the workforce within England or the UK. 82% of the sector‘s workforce have a qualification equals or lower than Level 2. This compares to 66% in England and 65% in the UK. 11% of the sector’s workforce in the North East are qualified at Level 4 or higher. This compares with 17% in England and in the UK.
