Yorkshire and the Humber

Yorkshire and the Humber have 6,300 engineering manufacturing establishments employing 125,200 people and 46% of the region’s establishments employ five or more people. 45% of these establishments are in the metal products sector. In comparison to other regions there has been a small decrease in the number of establishments (0.3%) and employment (5.6%). These decreases are again attributed to industry trends of downsizing and outsourcing. The two largest engineering occupational groups in the region are craftspersons (24%) and operators/assemblers (24%).
