West Midlands

The West Midlands employs more people in engineering than any other region.  17% of all people employed in engineering manufacture are employed in the West Midlands.  It is the most important region for employment percentage in a variety of industries:

  • 22% the metal products
  • 34% basic metal products
  • 26% motor vehicles
  • 14% mechanical equipment
  • 14% electrical equipment

This region has 10,700 engineering manufacturing establishments, employing 276,000 people.
