South East

The South East of England employs 218,000 people in 11,500 engineering manufacturing establishments.  59% of these establishments employ five or more people.  Industry trends of downsizing and outsourcing have resulted in a decrease in employment (3%) since 1998.  The highest decreases in employment in the region are for the operator/assembler category (9%) and Professional Engineers (9%).
