Regional / national dimension
The British Armed Forces are deployed at various locations around the world in over 80 countries. There is representation from single or small groups of military advisers (the majority) to full operational deployments. The frequency and length of a posting depends on job and rank, varying from 4-6 months for an operational detachment (e.g. with the RAF) to up to 4 years for a staff posting (e.g. with the Army).
MoD civil servants work in establishments all over the United Kingdom and overseas. Large concentrations of MoD staff are based in London, Bristol, Portsmouth, Glasgow, Gloucester, Bath, Salisbury and Andover, but there are smaller units in many locations.
