What do you think?

This section encourages you to respond to the issue associated with applying theory to practice.

Career guidance continually evolves to meet social, political and technological change.  Within this environment, theory can provide a sound structure on which practice can develop and adapt.

  • If you are a practitioner how aware are you of underpinning theory in your day to day practice?  Do you consciously apply the models you encountered in your initial training or have you evolved quite new ways of working?
  • If you are a student or trainee then your thoughts are especially welcome – how does theory seem relevant or resonant to you?  What would you like to see included here that might assist you in your studies?
  • If you are a manager when did you last think about theoretical underpinning in your work?  Are you interested in theories of organisational structures, are there other aspects of theory that you would like to see included in this section?  Perhaps you are you too distracted by policy directives to think about revisiting career and research theory, if so is this an issue?  Why do you do what you do and why does it matter?
  • If you are a professional researcher then please help fill in the gaps!
