Can the guidance community learn anything about impact from other disciplines?

This briefing paper introduces the concepts of impact analysis and evidence-based practice (EBP). Drawing on two empirical examples, it compares the use of randomised controlled trials to measure the impact of interventions in the medical and guidance professions, highlighting the benefits and limitations of the approach.
