Focus

This project, managed by Cornwall and Devon Careers, investigated how a dedicated careers adviser, working in partnership with a Youth Justice Team (YJT), could provide enhanced guidance, support and mentoring to young people for whom the team was responsible.

Key findings

The report shows a number of benefits for the clients. These include a service that is more accessible and flexible; an improved referral process; one that is client-centred and based on their guidance needs and not on the stage they are at within the youth justice system; access to financial support at the time they need it, and on-going support and advice.

The partnership has also gained, through clearer communication between the partners, and the identification of more effective partnership working. There has also been better liaison, and the development of relationships, with other agencies. This has led to a clearer evaluation of the process and an improved Partnership Agreement.
