3) Where do our priorities lie...

Where do our priorities lie, with the client or somewhere else? If we accept careers guidance is about working with individuals to discover and clarify skills and opportunities, to explore the external environment and to develop decision making skills, then surely the role of the careers professional is to facilitate this process through client centred activity. The economy only pictures in this scenario in relation to informing this internal debate for the client and in their review of the options at that juncture.

If we turn things around and lets say the need for plumbers in 2003 begins to dictate the process itself, then how many Scientists and Doctors do we lose and what new shortages do we create for the future. More importantly what lost potential -is gone forever?
