Theoretical bases
Theoretical bases predispose people to look at research on learning in and through work in particular ways.
The theoretical bases outlined here are not part of a comprehensive listing, rather they reflect those theories that a group of TLRP researchers thought it might be helpful to look at when examining research on learning in and through work. It is also important to note the grouping of particular concepts and how concepts relate to broader perspectives, for example gender. Below are given some of the theoretical bases that could be used to underpin research in this area:
- Activity theory
- Actor network theory
- Socio-cultural practice theory
- Multi-lens perspective
- Labour process theory
- Sociol-cultural linguistics
- Organisational learning
- Knowledge development/management
- Socio-psychological constructivist
- Post-structuralist
Some of these areas are investigated in more detail below:
